  1. Do you lead your imagination or do you allow imagination to lead you?

It’s a good question. I think we all are led by our imagination because our thoughts shape our reality. What we imagine we can achieve in our life is what we achieve. So allowing yourself to be led by your imagination is a positive way is the key point of creating an empowered and successful life.

1) Adopt the Only Approach

Amidst this chaos, what is the middle way to be adopted so as not to lose your own voice and belief? Adopt the Only approach. Let your vision be the only vision your see. Let your voice be the only voice you hear. Let your desired outcome be the only outcome you believe. Let your decision be the only decision you stick to. Using the term only depicts the state where we move the direction of our focus towards our destination only irrespective of thousands of distracting voices around us.

This approach is very relevant and compelling in today’s context where we often experience an overflow of information from all around us 24*7. It does not mean that we become cold hearted and force people to stop expressing their opinions or suggestions to us. It simply means to practice only this Approach on an internal level with such a vigor that the external opinions are not internalized and what we allow to impact us on an emotional level is ONLY the opinions which are corresponding to our own visions and beliefs. It applies to nullify distraction or deviation from our focused goal or state of mind.

2) Shun the fake anticipation

Fear is nothing but an illusory adverse anticipation of the outcome which has not occurred yet. Anticipation is only a mind’s play. The word fear instills a negative state of mind. Let’s stop using this word and use the substitute instead which is – fake anticipation. Fear of failure, fear of losing someone, fear of being rejected, fear of disease and fear of humiliation, etc. all occur at an imaginary level before the situation has actually taken place physically. It is wise not to allow such thoughts to occupy our heart and mind as they are fake and carry no proof of evidence of our ideal situation is bound to occur.

The question is how to enable such filter that can help us shun these stressful thoughts. The important aspect is that this anticipation can only be strengthened if we allow it to strengthen. It can take roots to reality only when we deliberately decide to let it grow. It needs our conscious permission to enter in the framework of our life. So you need to decide them to allow overpowering your mind or making them suffocate by negating these thought patterns so as to avoid the emotional turmoil.

3) Starving your doubt to death

We all are human beings, and it is a natural process to face doubtful thoughts whenever we decide to do something new or in times of tough and challenging situations. Having said that, we still hold the power to starve these doubts to death. How we can do this is by simply seeing these thoughts as part of the harmful suggestions instead of the final say makers. We should own the final authority over our lives as the powerful spiritual beings we all are and not by merely acting as puppets of these thoughts which serve no purpose in our life. It has often been noticed that the moment you stop feeding any verbal and attentive nutrition to these thoughts, they have no choice but to die meaning they just fade away from your mind completely and gradually.

It is however important at the same time that we understand the importance of our voluntary action in this process. If your thoughts are filled with probable negative and unjustified reasons for why you cannot accomplish what you wish to accomplish in your life, you do not have to trust it as you are the infinite and all powerful soul. Choose to be the lawmaker of your life and master the art of willfully constraining the fake apprehension which appears real. Always remember that you are not your doubts. They can impact your destiny and dream life only if you permit them to do so.

4) Stop pressing the rewind button

It often happens when we encounter any painful scenario/ person, scene or the memory of that painful incident keeps on playing in our heart and mind again and again even if we want to avoid it or we are running away from it. In that situation, we need to stop and analyze that the person only hurt us once, but it is our habit of pressing the rewind/replay button of that story which is causing a serious threat to our happiness and peace. This painful habit of choosing to live in the past causes emotional instability and harms our self-image and is dangerous for our peace of mind. The tendency of our mind to live in the past is natural but we have to set ourselves free by deliberately deciding not to be a prisoner of our past.

We need to accept the fact that everything happens for our higher good. The all-pervading Infinite Intelligence around us has planned everything perfectly. All we need to ensure from our side is that we are not missing the lessons we have learnt from our past mistakes to live a happier present and future life. The moment we realize that the events happened in the past has led us closer to our destination, and they have served their purpose in our life’s story, we will no longer feel the need to swing back to them again.

No amount of regret can change the past, but yes we can certainly choose to decide if we want to build a better and bigger future. We must be grateful for all the experiences of our past leading to our present state. The painful memories of the past sometimes trigger the unpleasant side of our emotions resulting in reinstating the pain and distress. It poses a severe threat to our emotional well-being. It only takes away the happiness of the present moment. We need to accept that everything is ever changing. Nothing is permanent. We need to deliberately make a choice as to when we’ll focus on our inability to change the past and our ability to design our future by utilizing the gift called present; we liberate ourselves from the painful shackles of the past.

5) Stop unintentional self-abuse

We need to accept the fact that no one can be perfect. We go through the process of learning, exploring and constantly understanding, throughout our lives. We need to forgive ourselves even if we are not able to perform on par with the level of expectations of society and our own selves. We need to stop abusing our self on emotional, physical and verbal levels. Saying phrases like “I do not deserve this” I am so silly” I look so ugly” “I am so fat” Shame on me” ”How could I do this” ”I hate myself” I am a failure” ”I am not good enough” “I will never be able to fulfill my dream” are examples of verbal unintentional self-abuse. Apart from the above-stated self-destructing thinking patterns, it might also involve deliberately harming yourself physically as a punishment for not being able to achieve the goals set by you, your society or your peer group.

Indulging in behaviors such as procrastination, injuring you physically, overreacting, using drugs and alcohol to look for the temporary mental relief are examples of physical self-abuse. It is erroneously contemplated as a safety mechanism which can protect you against the after effects of failures. Emotional unintentional self-abuse involves constantly worrying about things including judging ourselves harshly, our inability to say no to others and our inability to control fear-based thoughts and emotions. It is used as a tool for a transitory escape from our mental traumas. We need to adopt the right approach in order to assure that such actions do not cause a threat to our emotional wellbeing

6) Overcoming overthinking

Overthinking is one of the biggest causes of stress. Whenever we come across any difficulty, we tend to think so many negative thoughts about it that we forget the fact that in this overthinking thought process we are deliberately creating problems which do not exist in the first place. We tend to overanalyze the pros and cons; and we tend to misuse our gift called imagination. The power of visual fabrication of the extension of any external stimuli in times of any adverse situation causes a delay towards the achievement of any goal and creates the negative mindset which forces us to think that we will never achieve our goal. Over thinkers rehearse the conversations they had in the past. Secondly, they guess every decision you make and imagine adverse outcomes. Their minds enter a state where they start to rehearse the disastrous incidents which have no relation to the reality. This invites failures and disappointments.

Your worry about past mistakes and your future success often leads to the phase of overthinking as a result of which stress levels get elevated. Levels of anxiety rise when are waiting for the results especially during the examinations time. It does not only refer to the examinations is schools/colleges or universities. It also refers to the exam taken by the university called our Life. These exams can be termed as trials/hardships or challenges. During these difficult phases of our life, we have to understand that diving deep into the over exaggeration of unpredictable outcome of any situation will not increase the likelihood of succeeding in that trial. Rather it will increase the chances of negative outcome and will attract more adverse situations in our life. Assuring the avoidance of the same is the key to saving yourself from such a distressing mindset.

7) Checking your happiness checklist

We often tend to create a happiness checklist which exclusively includes materialistic achievements only. To add to the misery, we consider the approval by others as a necessary add-on pointer to this checklist. We need to rectify this checklist on a constant basis. Defining our happiness checklist by some materialistic possessions will never lead us to a happy and contented state. And this does not designate that we should not pursue our materialistic goals and possess wealth, name, and fame. It simply denotes that wealth, name, and fame should not possess us, and instead of ruling our minds, they should act as our auxiliaries.

Ask yourself the following questions before finalizing your happiness checklist:

  • Does the checklist which determines your happiness varies with time and age?
  • Does your emotional well-being play a detrimental role in determining your happiness quotient?
  • Is your happiness checklist based on pleasing people or pleasing your True Self?
